Good Evening Wahoos!
It has been a wonderful week! We have been able to get a lot of students added to buses this week and students and staff now seem to be in the groove of things. I know I have said it before, but I am truly excited about this school year! This message is to inform everyone of some important upcoming events.
-This Friday is early release, meaning our students get out of school at 1pm. Please be at your child's bus stop 2 hours earlier than normal.
-On Sept. 26th, our district is having a curriculum night from 6-8pm at Arlington Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. I will post flyers to our website.
-Progress Reports go home on Sept. 27th.
-We have a devoted dads breakfast scheduled for Friday, September 29th. Dads can come eat breakfast with their child. Breakfast will be from 7:20am to 8am.
-October 3rd, we will have our "Fall Into Learning" Curriculum Night at the school from 6-8pm. You will receive your child's beginning of year assessment scores and ways to help your child become more successful and prepared for their end of year assessments.
Parents, please know that on our school's website, under "calendars", you can see all of our planned events from now until the end of the year, including field day and awards day.
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and I hope to see many of you at our upcoming events. Have a great evening.

Good Afternoon,
If you have a child who rides bus 230 in the morning, they now have a bus driver for the afternoon. Their afternoon bus will be bus 356. They will ride 230 in the morning and 356 in the afternoons. IF you want this to start today for your child, please contact the school by 2:30pm. If we do not hear from you, your child will be put in the car line.
We still do not have a bus driver for bus 143 at this time.
Thank you and have a great evening.

Good Evening Wahoos!
I hope everyone has had a nice and relaxing weekend. This is a reminder that we have our first PTO and Title 1 meeting tomorrow night. We will have pizza available starting at 6:30pm in the cafeteria. This meeting will be to inform parents of how to join our PTO, how to help serve in the school, and how our federal dollars are spent at the school level. Our parent involvement plan and policy will also be shared.
Tomorrow during the school day, we will have a boy/girl scout representative on site speaking to all homerooms. If your child is interested in joining the scouts, a representative will be on campus Tuesday night to inform parents and help you sign your child up from 6pm to 6:30pm in the media center.
I hope everyone has a great evening and I look forward to seeing everyone bright and early in the morning.

Good Evening Winstead Avenue Wahoos,
This is a reminder that we are celebrating our grandparents tomorrow. Each teacher has a designated time, so please make sure you check your child's bookbag for their specific time frame or check the message that was sent out by your child's teacher.
Also parents, this upcoming Monday night at 6:30, we will have our first PTO meeting along with the school's annual Title 1 meeting in the cafeteria . If you would like to learn how you can join our school's PTO, help out more in the school, and/or want to know more information about our school's federal budget, please come out to the school this Monday at 6:30pm. All of our teachers will not be onsite this night, only one representative from each grade level. We will be providing pizza for this event, on a first come, first serve basis.
We will have our curriculum night on October 3rd from 6-8pm and this is where parents can meet with each teacher to learn how their child did on their beginning of year assessments and what they can do to continue to grow academically.
Thank you for your continued support! Have a great evening.

Good Evening Wahoos,
In honor of Grandparents Day this weekend, we would like to invite all of our grandparents out this Friday to eat a freeze pop with their grandchild. Teachers will be sending home a letter with students tomorrow indicating their specific time frame for each class. We would love to see all of our grandparents this Friday to celebrate them!
Parents, in the mornings please come through the car line to drop your child off. If you would like to walk your child up to the side door, you may do so by parking and walking them over. Please do not drive through the side parking lot or bus lane and drop your child off. This is very dangerous because we have buses and vans that are dropping kids off.
Tomorrow, all of our students should be walking in the doors by themselves. We have staff members in the hallway to help them get to their correct destination.
In the afternoon, we do not allow walk ups, unless you live across the street and students are literally walkers. Please do not park and walk up to the front door. This is for safety purposes. In the car line, please keep your child's car tag visible! Also, please try to write your child's name in marker if possible so that it can be easily read.
Thank you for another great day!! Have a great evening!

Hi friends and families. This is Mr. Smith, your child's art teacher and after school run club leader. It is almost time for the run club to begin again for this school year. We will start Monday, Sept.18th and will meet every Monday and Wednesday this school year after school. We will start off the school year with second graders only and if we have enough chaperones, then we will open up the run club for first graders as well. If your child was on the team last year they are still eligible (current 3rd grade students). I still have student permission slips from last year. I have sent new permission slips home with families during Open House and I have been passing them out to students that seemed interested.
Since we do not have Class Dojo this year, I will be using our Facebook run club page (WAVE Runners) to communicate with runners and their families. (Link below)
https://www.facebook.com/people/WAVE-Runners/100085954752426/?mibextid=LQQJ4d
Thank you in advance for your time and efforts.

Good Evening Wahoo Families,
I hope you have enjoyed this beautiful day! This is a reminder that we do not have school on Monday due to it being Labor Day.
This past week was a fabulous week! Please continue to be patient with the different modes of transportation. We are still in need of two bus drivers and the transportation department is still assigning students to buses. As soon as your child is assigned a bus, we will notify you.
This week we will be starting our fast pass car line ticket sale. With each $1 donation to the school, you will enter your name into the "fast pass" drawing. We will pull out 5 names Friday afternoon. The winners will not have to sit in the car line. They will simply be able to pull to the back of the school at 3pm and their kids will be brought out to them, without the line and hassle. If you want a specific number of tickets, please send a message to either your child's teacher or to an administrator. On the back of the ticket, please either write your name or your child's name and your phone number.
Parents, if you have not done so already, please complete the parent portal login and download the NCPS app. Please contact the school if you need assistance.
We look forward to an amazing school year!! Take care and have a great rest of your weekend.

Good Afternoon Wahoo Families,
We had an amazing first day of school! Parents please know that we went around and started putting tape on students' bookbags. Please do not remove the tape. The color of the tape indicates how students will get home on a daily basis. The number on their tape is their breakfast number. Students will receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Having this on your child's book bag will make dismissal and the breakfast line smooth.
Starting tomorrow, only our kindergarten parents will be allowed to walk their students to class. After this week, all of our students will be expected to walk in and to their classes independently.
I want to personally say thank you to everyone: students, staff, parents, and all stakeholders. This was one of the best starts that we have ever had. The only downfall is that as of right now, we do not have a bus driver for bus 143. We will let parents know as soon as transportation has secured someone.
I hope everyone gets a great night's sleep and I look forward to seeing everyone in the morning.

Good Evening Wahoos,
This is Mrs. Land, the Principal of Winstead Avenue Elementary. Thank you to everyone who came out to our Open House yesterday. It was a huge success!! If you still need to do so, please download the NCPS app and create your login for Parent Portal. When creating your Parent Portal login, please follow the directions on the back of that page. You must include your email address to receive your child's report card. The NCPS app and the Parent Portal login are separate items.
Parents, please complete the forms given to you at Open House as soon as possible and return them to your child's teacher.
This Monday is the first day of school. Our hours are 8 am to 3 pm. Students can be dropped off as early as 7:20 a.m. Students report to the multi-purpose room or the cafeteria. At 7:40 a.m., students can report to class. Parents, you may walk your child in on the first day of school. After day one, only kindergarten parents will be allowed to walk in with their child for the first week.
Our car line is located in the front circle of the school. Our morning car line will be a single-car line. Our afternoon car line will be a double car line. Parents, if you are picking your child up early, please know our latest checkout is at 2:30 pm. You must park in the staff parking lot and come in to get your child. After 2:30 p.m., please get in the car line. The new addition to our front driveway is for emergency vehicles only and to allow us to have a double car line in the afternoon to get cars off the roadway. Please refrain from using this driveway.
Parents, you can check your child's bus information. Please see the message posted on our school's website for more details.
We look forward to seeing our students and families in the building this Monday morning. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good Evening Winstead Avenue Wahoos! This is Mrs. Land, the Principal of Winstead Avenue Elementary. This call is to remind all families that we have open house this Thursday from 11-1pm and again from 4-6pm. This is a floating event, so please come during the time frame that is convenient for you and your family. During this time you will be able to meet your child's teacher, get the beginning of year packet, sign up for bus transportation, receive parent portal information, and hopefully get any unanswered questions answered. Our PTO will be on site selling items such as shirts and icees. We look forward to seeing all of our Wahoos here this Thursday.
If your child had a residency affidavit last year and it has not been updated this year by lunch time tomorrow, your child will be dropped from their classes. Please make sure you bring in all the necessary documents to the front office.
Again, I look forward to seeing everyone this Thursday night. I know it will be a great school year!

Good Afternoon,
This is Mrs. Land, Principal of Winstead Avenue Elementary, welcoming you to the 2023-2024 school year. In just a little over 2 weeks, our Wahoos will either be starting back to school or starting to school for the first time and the staff here at WAVE is looking forward to it. This Saturday, our amazing PTO is hosting a Beautification Day at Winstead Avenue starting at 9am. If you are willing and able to come help spruce up the outside of the school, we would love to have you! We will be pulling weeds, planting flowers, and making the outside look lively again.
Our awesome staff will be starting back this Monday. The first week back to school for staff is filled with meetings and professional development. Please be looking and listening out for a phone call from your child's teacher between Wed of next week and the following Wednesday, August 23rd. Teachers will be calling and introducing themselves along with reminding all families about open house. Open house will be a floating event on Thursday August 24th from 11am to 1pm and again from 4pm to 6pm that evening. You are more than welcome to come between those two time frames to meet your child's teacher, get a supply list, and receive the back to school packet. Please know that each grade level has a supply list posted online already.
Parents, if you have not downloaded the NCPS app on your phone, please do so! We will be using this app to communicate with our parents this year instead of class dojo.
I look forward to an amazing school year and I can not wait to see our Wahoos back in the building!
